Use Your Imagination: Rivership Romance
Up for something a little different? Why not try a relaxing cruise down the St. John’s River?
Hubby and I have only been once, for New Year’s Eve last year, and I’m really glad we gave it a chance. It was a wee bit expensive (I want to say it was $100 for the two of us, maybe?), but was a really memorable way to spend the evening. (Not memorable enough to bring the camera, apparently, but if I remember correctly, we were all gussied up, and cameras don’t fit very well in cute, tiny evening bags!)
Rivership offers a variety of cruises:
Family Fun Days offer everything from face painting to animals from Gatorland (see? I told you!). Very kid-friendly, obviously.
Native Tuesdays give you a glimpse into the history and wildlife of the area.
There’s also 3-hour luncheons, Sunday Brunches, and even Dining and Dancing on Saturday nights.
The takeaway: If you’re looking for something that you’ve never tried before in the Orlando area, this is it. It might not be as action-packed as Universal, or have as much showmanship as Disney, but it’s really fascinating to glimpse the wildlife (birds, turtles, alligators, you name it) and nature that’s so close to home. Plus, you’re supporting a local business. Good karma!
- Food isn’t always included in the ticket price, so be sure to ask so you have a clear understanding of what you’ll be getting.
- You won’t be seated with people you don’t know, which is nice for those of us who aren’t so good with the smalltalk! The only time you’re seated is during the dining portion, by the way; for the rest of the time you’re free to wander as you please.
- Having trouble picturing how this would all go down? OK, I’ll let you cheat with their photo gallery.
- They also do weddings!
Location: 433 N. Palmetto Ave Sanford, FL 32771
Reservations: Online or call 800-423-7401 or 407-321-5091 (tip: always check their web site first, because they sometimes offer codes or promotions that are only available if you mention that you saw them there.
Pricing: Click here for current pricing (depends on the length and date of excursions, from as low as $15 to as high as $55 per person). Somehow I’m on their mailing list, which gives dates and discounts for upcoming adventures, but for some reason I can’t find a link on their site. I’d recommend dropping them an e-mail and asking to be added.
