Hangin’ Out At…Blue Bird Bake Shop

Say you’re in the Baldwin Park area, and you’re hungry. But not for burgers. Or for chocolate. Where should you go?

If you play your cards right, you may get to enjoy a delicious cupcake, baked from scratch daily…

…and you can enjoy it in a simple, clean cupcake shoppe with quite a friendly staff.

But maybe you’re with someone who isn’t feeling the cupcake love (I would be suspicious of such a person, by the way). Don’t worry. Blue Bird Bake Shop has more than just cupcakes, including coffee, muffins, cookies and even say, the occasional butterscotch bar.

Uh oh. As it tends to happen when tempted with such delicious treats, you’ve over-ordered. Whatever will you do with the extra ‘cakes?

Order them “to go”, of course. Cocooned in their own little boxes, your cupcakes, in all their delicious flavors, will arrive home safely…just in time for you to devour them.

Clockwise from the top left, the flavors above (as described from Blue Bird’s site) are:

  • Upside Down: chocolate cake topped with vanilla buttercream icing and sprinkled with chocolate jimmies
  • Ch-Chocolate: chocolate cake topped with chocolate buttercream icing and finished with chocolate curls
  • Sweet Cake:vanilla cake with white chocolate chips topped with vanilla buttercream icing and sprinkled with white nonpareils
  • Tuxedo: chocolate cake topped with cream cheese icing and finished with mini chocolate chips

The takeaway: Hubby and I thought the cupcakes were a bit expensive ($2.25/each), but it’s still under ten bucks for 2 cupcakes and 2 coffees, so it’s still Frugal Fun to me. I’ve come to realize that if you want something made locally by hand, with fresh ingredients, you have to be willing to go outside your comfort zone a bit.

  • Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 7a to 5p and Sunday 10a to 4p
  • Location: 3122 Corrine Dr., Orlando, FL 32803
  • Menu: For the full menu, click here. Ch-chocolate, Downside Up, Neopolitan, Red Velvet, Strawberry, Sweet Cake, Tuxedo and Upside Down are baked daily. For additional flavors that change seasonally, follow them on Facebook or Twitter.
